I can't fix thisđ... (but HOPING the VET can!)đ€ | SPRING LAMBING 2021 | Vlog 435
This little lamb had its leg stepped on. I've spent the last couple days trying to assess, and splint as best I can...
But this break is too high for what tools I have.
So, I called the vet for one last chance to save this lamb.
AND...
Blind Betty had her babies!!!

Do we know the outcome so far? I hope we find out. Hope this works.
I think your lambs legs a breaking is because its the way u pull them out
Haha why would anything or anyone know more about babies lames You are truly the best you do the hard work you know what youâre doing we just get the joy of watching you youâre teaching us so the hell with any thing else anybody else wants to say do what you think is best youâre doing a damn good job and I can honestly say no man has anything on you youâre truly the hardest worker and the kinda Human being who truly cares about her animals . I truly think men have a easier time letting go of an animal then we women do so just keep your crown on youâre the queen of the lambs good luck
God bless you u r so great with them
Praying it will be healed
Turn the lamb upside down to get fluids out
I don't know how you can NAME your sheep yet remain objective overall. Naming seems really affectionate and attached.... I couldn't do what you do anyway. I was raised on a small farm.... half a dozen goats, 1 cow, 1 pig, a dozen rabbits, many dozens and breeds of chickens and ducks, geese... lots of cats ... a couple of dogs.... For us kids it was a petting zoo.... and we loved it... I just couldn't be as actively involved with the LAMBING.... separating for market and sale, etc.... I do understand that ALL of it must be done.... YOU are a LIVESTOCK FARMER.... I can't be... but I sure can admire YOU!
So Proud of You and Bettyâ€ïž You are both good Momsđ„°I sure have been enjoying your Videos, you are Amazingđ„°â€ïž
I so what this little broken leg lamb đ„°đ„° im so in love
When your lambs have fluid on their lungs why do you not pick them up and swing them, common practice I believe here in the UK
These people with negative comments arenât there. The mass majority of them are not farmers or keepers of livestock and have no idea what it really consists of. They could read all day and all night and still have no idea what the reality of it is unless they live it. When people say farm life and tending to livestock is hard, itâs not just the labor they are talking about. It involves a lot of heartache involved too. Blood, sweat and tears.
This is nice to see. The pink she put on before the fibreglass casting is called vet wrap is is amazing and should be in everyone pet first aid kit as well as possibly in their one for them.
your real.. I Admire You.. As do many more..!!
Sandi, I have the utmost admiration for your compassion, level-headedness and dedication. You are just tops in my book and donât listen to any naysayers that might crawl by! Cheers, girl! Jody đšđŠ Ontario
I am sad that the baby has a boo boo but dang this was so informative and it is info I will never need, not from my apartment đą! But wow loved watching the process. My dog better be careful, lmao!!! Blessings y'all!
You notice and do more for farmed animals than a lot of people do for their family 'pets'. Ignore any crappy comments!
Could you sell for half price or gift a lamb with a broken bone to someone willing to care for it as a pet?
Awww sweet little crys†luckily she already has lamb's wool padding under the cast!
My first and probably favorite or close to favorite dog, only had 3 good legs. I had her as a kid. On the farm, we had a 3 legged cat named Tripod. They adapt. Just like we do. â€ïž
I've worked in PT and I'm used to amputees, broken legs, etc. I'm glad u gave her a chance. â€ïž
You should check out the Wizard of Paws. He custom makes prothesis for every kind of animals...even elephants. He also know people who do farm rescue for unwanted farm animals. You can get his information on btutv.org His name is Derrick and he has his own show on byutv.org. He is absolutely amazing!!!
Sandi it is obvious you are a compassionate lamb farmer. Tough love
Lol who else had this channel recommended for no reason...but you have been watching this and falling in love !! This is such a beautiful addictive channel!!
You Know They Can Live with 3 Legs With No Problems....đ€ŠđŒââïž
I just found you this week, so don't come for me commenters... I'm just asking a question. Why did you decide to intervene with Betty? I know it's edited footage so I don't know how long she was in labor but she didn't seem distressed and it didn't seem like that much time has passed from you penning her to the intervention.
I know who delicate lambs are, my friend also has sheep, and lambing every spring. I never knew how delicate they are until I found out from just experiencing what she had to go through!
I hope the little lamb gets better. Stay strong little lamb.
How did the baby break its leg? Guess I missed that.
Thank God you were there to help Betty and her babies. That one wouldn't have made it without you there. Such a blessing.
This isn't going to come off as well as I'd like. The lamb is a living being, yes, but it is inventory in your business to be sold or breeding stock for the future. It is more a business decision and must be. Farm animals are not pets. Glad to have found your channel Sandi.
Holey triplets Batman!!! đđđđđđđđđ I laughed to much
We cast a calf this high, he did very well, you wouldnât know he broke it!
This just goes to show you care. I just started watching your channel. Do you own this sheep ranch?
How did the little one with the broken leg make out?? did it work?
Thank goodness it worked!! It's a life and I couldn't put something down just because it had bad odds and misfortune đčđ
We have the same vet she is fantastic
We have had the same issue. We You tubed it and wrapped up around its waist for 2 weeks. It did heal and it was walking on 3 legs for sometime. In about 2 months it had straightened out and it finally began to put weight on it. By the time we sold you had to know the history to see it. Give it a try we had good luck twice and no vet call. Thanks for all you do.
I am a retired Mother-Baby RN in NC and have been mesmerized by your videos! Since I stumbled on it last week, I have been glued to your channel! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?! Am loving all that I am learning đ You are a fantastic, compassionate sheep farmer. Remember that when those tough decisions come up and don't worry about the naysayers! â€ïžđâ€ïžđ
Great job remembering your gloves!
I hope this works. Good or bad at least you can say you've done your best by the lamb.
A while back, I had an injury that I had to wrap with that self-cling material. I was buying it at Walmart for around $3.50 a roll. While watching one of your videos, I heard you call it vetwrap. I went on Ebay and looked under that name and bought a case of 30 rolls for something like $32. It looks and works just like the tan colored stuff, but only came in a mix of bright colors. So far I have never needed to use any, but I have it if I ever do. Another good video, keep them coming. Have a good day.
Was the mom "pawing" after her first lamb, because she was hurting?
I can tell that you are a very caring sheep owner so it must be very difficult when you lose your âbabiesââ€ïž
Wow you have an amazing vet... they didnât just treat the lamb and cast the leg, they taught you how to do it properly yourself... thatâs far more valuable than just doing it. Your also a pretty amazing farmer who really cares about your animals... we all know that there is a big chance that this lamb will eventually be sold for meat, but yet you still treated it with the same love and care as you would a family pet. You really do go out of your way to treat each and every animal as lovingly as possible no matter their end purpose. Thatâs a testament to who you are as a person. Much love â€ïž keep being awesome!
What a great vet teaching you how to cast a leg! What a great owner knowing the difference between human feelings and animal welfare when euthanasia is involved.
Hi, I'm a veterinary student and we are taught that sometimes with lambs or calves you can use a Thomas splint for upper limb fractures. Due to their low bodyweight and rapid healing, a splint can be enough. You never know until you try! By the way, I really like the way you handle your animals and the joy you get from working with them. It shows you love your job and your animals!
Good decision. I applaud your dedication to your animals. You obviously love them.
Stand and swing the lamb upside down, helps get the fluid out. I would like to know more about your little pump thingy. I use a premier bulb syringe on goats. Great channel Sandi !!
Sandi I do not think you should worry about what people say. First of all, you do all you can and you are a very loving, sympathetic, person to your sheep. Secondly, they are not there in your position and experiencing what is going on. That little lamb is sure a fighter and is so cute. Love your compromise. Have a lovely day.
You so what you have to do. You are being pragmatic, if it has to be, the lamb will not suffer...
i....how'd i get here...
Where there is a will there is a way! Prayers
That vet is absolutely fantastic and such a great patient teacher. It is so wonderful that both you and the vet are willing to go the extra mile.
This time you saved Betty and her triplets. Dang you are a super woman. Iâm exhausted just watching your videos. Your energy is quite impressive. Great job.
Man if you get judgment, people donât know anything! Most farmers would just have put the lamb down once it was found to be lame! You do everything in your abilities to help your lambs! I think you are amazing!!
Very informative, my grandson currently has a fiberglass cast. Never seen one installed. Had seen plaster casts done. Enjoy watching. Jerome Manhattan Ks.
I like how you got excited about betty having her baby. I just started to subscribe and follow you and you're so neat even though I've seen some other ones before I've subscribed
Wobbly soda is my new favourite expression
I'd try to save it no matter what.
When i watch her deliver a baby I think, imagine the doc pushing his hand up us and dragging our baby out by the legs lol
Hey do you take volunteers? I grew up on a beef/ sheep Ranch out in Alberta since I've been in Ontario I haven't had any connection to my up bringing and would love to reconnect and help you! I know it can be hard and exhausting and I would just love the opportunity!
Happy Easter canooks
You are the best shepherd, now you know why the Lord calls us his sheep and he is the good shepherd. Sheep like us are so helpless and need help God Bless stay true strong and free. Jesus loves you â€ïž
I never realized how common it was for sheep to have multiple lambs
From northern Michigan DIY shepherds, thanks for being straight strong and true.
Hi Sandi, I'm guessing you have looked into it but would cut out piping work for water in your lambing pens? đ
Could the lamb live a healthy life with an amputated leg? Just curious why that isn't an option
Fantastic! You know what's best, these are YOUR sheep, these are YOUR lambs. You are a wonderful Shepherdess. Plus I agreed 100% with what you said. đđ
Oops, someone through active learning so the owner can learn to cast a leg themselves.
I admire a veterinarian who teaches you
You are the most compassionat person I've watched on you tube. You don't treat your lambs like a paycheck you treat them with kindness and compassion..You are such a great person Sandi and never let anyone bring you to tears again or make you think twice about what you are doing The gentle sweet soul of a person is are who you are. Some are just jealous that you have so much talent and can hold hour own. I deal with that daily at work im a cook. But I've got a couple coworkers who try to bring me down and has tried to Saratoga me. I've had to fight my way up to one of the best grill cook there other than my bosses. But they just keep on picking on me cuz they are so jealous that I am just as good at what I do than they are if not better. I come home crying so much. But lately as I watch your channel you've inspired me to keep on doing what im good at and now my boss knows that I've just worked hard and want to make the costumers happy. And don't bother anyone I help them. So . She noticed the jealousy. But its still hard knowing that behind my back they don't like me because I just show up and do my job very well.. its heartbreaking to say the least..But you my friend are genuinely a great soul. Rare people. But you got this girlffiend.. Keep smiling that beautiful smile and God will keep blessing you and karma will bite the haters in the a#* . And life will weed out the haters on its own as you move forward and keep being happy doing what you do.. Your descions are theđŻ best ones for your lambs don't let nobody make you think any different. God bless your sweet soul Miss Sandiđđđđđđđđ So happy that little baby lamb will stand a fighting chance its all because of your big ole â€
This was an amazing video! I watched a similar video where the vet put a small harness on the lamb's leg was hitched up a bit to keep pressure off the hip until it healed. Very tricky stuff!!
Hi Sandi--Loved watching the casting--We use the same 3M casting! Great stuff. So glad you gave the little one a chance. If it doesnt work out well at least you tried and "the last act of kindness" may be the kindest thing you can do--saying my prayers for that little one
Awesome! Great vet to teach you how to do that. đđđđđđđđ
Kudos to vet. Next live I'll give superchat so you can buy her flowers chocolates or a fine champagne.
I just felt in love with that little lamb
So glad you didn't have to put the little lamb down. She is gorgeous, one of the more beautiful lambs that I have seen. Plz keep us updated on her. Thank you Sandi â€
Maybe hang a chalkboard in the barn so that as you find things you need to do, things to order, sheep you need to keep an eye on, etc., you can write it on the chalkboard instead of relying on memory.
New Lamb Name... CastHer
How did it break a leg
Sandi im a vegan from the Netherlands. I love to watch your video's, because i see you love your animals so much! Ok to be honest, i would like to see Them having some more space to move. BUT ALL your sheeps seem happy and you take real good Care of Them!!! You even bring this lam to the vet!! I love you for that! And the lam 2 â„ïž keep up you good and hard work!
HOLY TRIPLETS BATMAN I know that phrase is going to come to my brain at some random time. I love it!
Will you make a compilation of lamb antics? Jumping, frolicking, running crazy, cuteness overload shots, etc. ?
Ambutation of a limb is a good choice for a pet, but it isn't a choice for a farm animal. These animals have a Job to do, that they can't do on only three legs. Euthanizing would absolutely the right choice for an animal like that.
Are you considering opening a Patreon account?
I'm curious about the vet bill vs how much you can sell the lamb for. In this case, it was a good educational experience that Sandi will be able to use in the future, with the vet demonstrating how to do casting. The animals should be treated humanely, and Sandi's great at that, but ultimately this is a business. Sometimes euthanasia is the best option for the bottom line. I've never eaten lamb meat because I pictured little lambs like they are in the first month or two. Now that I know how big they actually are when they go to market, I might have to try it sometime.
The vet talking and explaining has a beautiful voice. She just sounds so lovely!
Well done, Sandi!
I apologize if you have covered this before, but when a ewe has more than 2 lambs, do you automatically remove the extras and raise them on your milk machine or do you only remove them if you feel they aren't getting enough to eat?
Yeah they saved the lamb đ thatâs wonderful
Emmmmmbeeeeeđđđđđđđ
The explanation at the beginning shows what kind of person you are and I hope that all people who keep animals have a similar one - you put their comfort first
Will lamb ever be worth the expense? How's sheep veal? mm good eats
You are amazing
I'm so concerned about your obvious fear of impending comments. What on earth could people say other than "Good job Sandi". anyone saying something negative obviously isn't qualified to comment and shame on them for doing so. It baffles me why people can be so hateful. What's occurring in their lives that makes them so vile. You do a great job Sandi. You work incredibly hard and do the very best you can for your flock. X
@MobyDicksWife it's all part of the circle of life and if some people don't agree with it then they shouldn't watch. Don't think Sandi is about the cute lambs even tho' they are sweet for a while. There's a lot of science and education too in her videos watch, comment or
There are some people who consider even keeping livestock as abuse. There are some people who think shipping lambs to market is abuse. There are some people who only see "cute" 12 lbs lambs and want to keep them as pets, forgetting they will be 160 to 200 pounds when fully grown, And that they will need at least another two sheep as company as sheep are herd animals and suffer severe mental distress without their herd.
I am not a farmer but my best freind is and we live in the very south of Ireland a very beautiful part o the country and I went sheep farming for the first time yesterday so fun we were rounding em up and putting the numbers on them i have went chicken and cattle farming many times do
Found your channel 3 days ago and I'm addicted đ love from Ireland đ
Glad that they were able to help you out with her.
Yeah...... blessings in disguise.
Can you tell us what you wear on a normal day? Winter and summer. Outer layers, long-johns, sweatshirts, jackets, boots etc?
That resuscitator/suction device has certainly paid for itself already! Yay!
