This didn't end well. | SPRING LAMBING 2021 | Vlog 426

A disappointing discovery at 4am on Saturday morning. I had a ewe that looked casted, so I quickly ran in to get her upright again.
Unfortunately, I was too late.
I also got to finally use my resuscitator on a newborn lamb and it worked amazing!!

  • Hey all! I forgot to add this to the video, and it seems to be the biggest question. I could have preformed a c-section if I was closer to my utility room... I was at the back of the barn with no surgical supplies and to be honest, I don’t really have a surgical kit as this hasn’t happened to me in years. You have very little time to get lambs out alive, and these ones I question were even full term yet. We’ve done c-sections in the past with very little success. But they can be done for sure!

    • Could it of been that the lamb ruptured something inside of her? We have had that happen with our cows. Though it's rare doesnt happen often it could be a possibility.

    • Hi Sandi👋 I just found your channel! Already have binge watched 7 vids already! I am wondering, what breed are your sheep? My son is going to start with Dorpers next year. I have never seen so many multiple births before. The most I have ever seen are twins so I am curious if it is because of the breed. Thank you and your videos are amazing and I especially love the little lamb montage you did on another video of all the little babies running and playing it was fabulous! Many blessings to you ❤️🙏

  • I was wondering- why don't you try to feed the smallest one from multiple births. The tinyest one keeps crying out like- "feed me". The one, was also having trouble walking. Tough job, having to deal with the ups and downs of the business. Isn't it a form of abuse to impregnate them so many times? Isn't there a such thing as too many times for their well being? I should think diet is very important.

  • Some of them by nature need pasture to feel calm when give them room to walk around making the birth physically and phycologically easier than a pin. That's why you see people walking around pregnant women in hospital corridors.

  • I watch another channel and they had some commit suicide, because of all the negative comments, please please do not listen to stupid people, there are a lot of idiots that are rude, and so hateful, they get off on, making rude comments, to see if they can get some one roused up, they are sick. so please ignore any negative comments and love your channels, if it gets bad turn off your commits, or have someone edit out the bad ones, I can tell how much you love your sheep, and how they mean to you. I have had sheep a long time before and love them and enjoy getting baby lambs every spring. hugs

    • Yep! I agree! I have a backpack meant for school and carrying a laptop. And it gives me plenty of space with dividers and I keep certain meds in gallon zip lock bags to help "file" them. I have 3 bags like this...1 for kidding/lambing, 1 basic med bag all stock, and one with my tools(tattoo gun, tagger, bander, horn iron etc) I can easily grab 2 or even all 3 very quickly when heading out! I also keep med charts in both med bags and a scale and strap in my kid/lamb bag and in my med bags. You just never know when you'll need it! And they store nicely on the coat hangers in my mud room. Any meds thst are refrigerated are in zip lock in the fridge so I can easy grab and shove in the med bag if headed out. Time and life saver!! Literally

  • The sheep staring up at the sky, if she were human I would suspect that she was catatonic! I don't know how you do it all. They are so cute and the one lamb that was walking on a ewe's back and they didn't have the same markings so I don't think it was her mom, but too cute. One of the things many PC people want is animal meat, etc. without the use of hormones, antibiotics, etc. and you use it routinely to keep your stock alive when possible. Medicines being used for medical problems is so useful and if people watched this I think they would agree, as would they rather have a bunch of dead animals because they won't give something that will help them. I was up yesterday till 5!M watching you and your sheep!

  • I'll try again. When I was a child in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, my job to help my grandfather and his sheep was to wander over the hillside pastures and roll pregnaNT ewes over onto their bellies. If they laid down and got their feet higher than their spine they would accept death and make no effort to get up. I never had any desire to get into the sheep business.

Your a beautifull strong woman and i love the way you are caring for your sheep and lambs. I guess we're about the same age and i'm having my own practice in (phyical and mental) Health care (reflex integration with MNRI), mostly for humans but i also like to work with animals. So your video's are not only fun to watch but also informative, like with the sucking/ swallowing reflex and keto.. I just want to let you know and i hope to see a lot more. Warm regards, Karin.
